PRECINCTS

General

The smallest and most important political unit in a state's political party is the precinct.  The precinct is comprised of registered voters totaling between 500 - 1500 people (although some precincts in Beaufort County include over 3000 people).  The precinct is the unit that is organized to support Democratic candidates and get out the vote on election day.

Precincts are often organized around a central polling place where people actually cast their ballot.  Due to the growth of the population in Beaufort County in recent years, many precincts share the same polling location.  In Beaufort County, there are 95 precincts.

Note, that Sun City is in both Beaufort County and Jasper County and that there is a Jasper County precinct within Sun City.

Each precinct has its own organization with a president, executive committee member, as well as other official roles all focused on organizing that precinct to maximize the participation of Democratic voters.  Beaufort County precincts are currently being organized in preparation for the 2022 elections.

All Precinct Executive Committee members are members of the Beaufort County Democratic Party Executive Committee which meets on the second Tuesday of each month.
